As more and more people use the internet to research purchases and services before laying down their hard earned cash, it's clear that traditional marketing such as fliers, mail drops and hardcopy advertising just won't be enough to push a business ahead of the opposition. To do that you have
to be on top of the internet marketing game.
The changes we're seeing to the internet marketing environment are mind-blowing. For the first time the little guy has an opportunity to play with the big guns – it's no longer a given that you have to have a internet marketing budget as long as Donald Trumps shopping list. All you need to get your business, product or service noticed, is to spread a little love to the search engines (Also known as internet search marketing).
Online tools today have changed the game and created new rules for information exchange and information commerce which in turn drives internet marketing. Software as a service application is bringing everything from Uncle Tim's driving school, to your kid's Ballet classes online, as part of the mysterious but ever-expanding “Cloud”. Your business HAS to be visible in the cloud, and using w3 Internet Marketing tools and resources for business is your primary tactic of being found.
So how do we get the search engines to like us so that we can be found amongst the millions of web pages that make up this internet marketing cloud? The rules are actually quite simple, and can be summarised as the “4 C's” :
1) Content
If all you expect from your website is a printed brochure and you like it that way, please close this page now! You cannot have any success online driving traffic to your site from search engines without content. Great bucket loads of content! Books full! Insane amounts of words, pics, video, music-whatever floats your boat. By insane amounts, recognize that there are millions of websites out there with 1000s of pages of content! Yours has to stand out in the cloud!
Search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo look at content as a measuring stick of how relevant your business is in the world and therefore this is vital to any internet marketing.
If you want to know how to really beef up your content, just subscribe to “Search for w3 gold” and I'll give you some free tips and even share some proven strategies – you don't even have to write your own stuff!
2) Connection
This is ongoing and takes work; It ain't a once-off event! Any good marketer knows that it takes time for people to warm up to your content, so you need to have plenty of good stuff and keep refreshing it… a lot! Your goal is not to have them visit your site or blog once; they must bookmark it, subscribe to your RSS feed, and basically give you permission to market to them again and again. It's that repetition of interesting content that wins over people in internet marketing. Once they subscribe, you're beyond idle chit chat and into the hand-holding phase of the relationship. Keep going and you just might get to second base, where they like you enough to want to talk to you.
3) Conversation
Ahhh! Now we're getting comfortable. Any savvy website or blog will have a “subscribe” box to encourage you to come and chat. You also see all those tiny little squares on websites, all over the place, asking you to follow them on Facebook, re-Tweet them, subscribe, StumbleUpon, or otherwise talk to the site, rate the blog, or product, or picture – get it! This is just internet marketing recognition of the importance of dialogue and chatter in today's socialised world. Exploiting this correctly is vital. Create a conversation with your customers, and soon you'll have them creating positive, happy, fluffy conversations about your business. Do this right and go viral, and you're a celebrity in your little business niche; and now we're cooking with gas, friends! Big-time internet marketing rewards!
4) Consistency
Like the chorus of a song, it's this repetition that search engines look for. Every day, millions of pages of content get loaded onto the Internet and indexed by Google, Yahoo and the boys. Not to mention that, the rules and algorithms that the major search engines use to determine relevance in the world, are constantly changing. What that means to internet marketing is, if you are trying to get enough search engine traffic to do enough business for you to purchase a MacDonald's Happy Meal, you need to be engaging in this stuff weekly.
Having said that, if your content is wholesome, good stuff, the huge benefit of the online world is that your stuff doesn't ever die! It can be a beautiful thing, this internet marketing. The problem is, you don't ever know what's going to last. It's simple really. You don't know what the rest of the world is going to do that might be more relevant than the pearls you posted last week. The best you can do is keep going. You'll hit some grand slams at times, but in the long run you'll score more runs with singles!

We are seeing more and more QR Codes everday, do you advise on any special marketing methods using QR Codes?
Hi. A local business niche that benefits greatly from this are the real estate agents. Put together a video using pics on their site. Upload to YouTube; Create a QR code; send a mail explaining that they can incorporate the code in all forms of advertising, creating a truly interactive, on-demand customer experiance.
